Bill Youree remembered as 'ideal gentleman'

BRENTWOOD — Much of the Brentwood community woke up to a shock Thursday morning when news quickly spread of the sudden death of first-year City Commissioner Bill Youree.

A housekeeper discovered Youree's body sitting at a desk in his home earlier that morning. City Manager Mike Walker said they believe he died the night before of natural causes. An autopsy is planned.

Walker's face was pale Thursday morning as he spoke about the loss.

"He was almost a nonpolitical type," Walker said of Youree, 60. "He had the best interest of Brentwood in his heart. A nice, genuine guy. He was very supportive of the staff."

Walker said it's still early to speculate on how they'll fill Youree's seat on the commission. He's asked City Attorney Roger Horner to look into it, but he assumes the commission will appoint someone to the job.

Youree's fellow commissioners, however, weren't thinking that far ahead on Thursday. They were focused on Youree and his family. Continue....
