Tom Leatherwood's Challenge; Provincialism over Conservatism

Attempting to run to the right of Congressman Blackburn, with her consistently proven conservative voting record and advocacy; is similar to trying to develop a drink sweeter than southern sweet tea.
Clearly, a waste of anyone's time and monies.
This contest is most likely sour grapes on behalf of the old GOPer's in Shelby County, who don't like those Republican upstarts in Williamson County, taking the Congressional seat that belongs to one of their people.

The Republican challenger to Congressman Marsha Blackburn is throwing the kitchen sink at the Brentwood Republican, and he’s not wasting any time doing it.

Former state Sen. Tom Leatherwood, the challenger, formally announced his candidacy last week. In a press release, Leatherwood immediately went negative, criticizing Blackburn and the Republican Congress for not being “effective or focused on the job.”

“She’s been ineffective resolving, or even improving critical issues facing our country; including the economy, illegal immigration, the deficit, and family values legislation,” he said.

Leatherwood went onto criticize Blackburn for Washington’s excessive spending and ethical issues such as paying her son-in-law’s company more than $120,000 of her PAC money for campaign services.

His list goes on and on, mentioning all of Blackburn’s unmentionables before pumping his own platform.

Republican observers say Leatherwood’s scorched earth tactics are coming off as too personal and missing the mark. Besides, the task of trying to make the case to Tennessee Republicans that Blackburn is NOT a conservative is probably a more expensive task than his campaign can handle.

If you think Marsha is a Conservative, you just have not been paying attention.

Jim Tomasik, the Democrat candidate who is a FairTax supporter is the most conservative by default. The FairTax is backed by the most conservative Republican members of Congress such as Tom Coburn and even a few conservative Democrats. Marsha Blackburn is the only Republican congress'person' who is against it in the state of Tennessee. Tom Leatherwood never mentions FairTax and probably doesn't even know what it is. I said I'd never vote for a Democrat but I guess I will this time around.
