Visit Convinces Blackburn Arctic Drilling is Needed

Brentwood Republican Marsha Blackburn says it’s essential to drill for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve.

Blackburn just got back from a three-day tour of ANWR. The Congresswoman says she found a desolate landscape, not a “pristine wilderness teeming with wildlife.” Blackburn says opening drilling could create 750-thousand jobs and energy security, even if it’s only done in a relatively small portion of the area.

Environmentalists oppose drilling in the Alaskan wildlife refuge. They say the infrastructure surrounding drilling rigs and pipelines would be much larger than supporters claim. And they say the estimate of jobs the operation would create has been exaggerated.
