Is Becky Sharber seeking a head coaching position in the NFL?

WCS' Sharber ready to find next opportunity

“There has not been that much criticism from the public. I did hear a board member got an email that I should be fired. I am sure Jeff Fisher gets emails like that every week.”
Right......not much criticism AND now comparisons to Jeff Fisher. Wow, what's next, will she start wearing dark sunglasses INSIDE and talk with a RASPY voice.

Board is divided

After Sharber gave her notice Monday night, there was no discussion when her annual performance evaluation, an 18-page document, was distributed.

But the evaluation itself provides some insight into board members' feelings. The "yes or no" format of the evaluation shows the 12-member panel is divided on two questions asking whether Sharber "demonstrates personal integrity" or "conducts business in a professional manner."

The group was also split 6-6 on the question of whether Sharber "provided factual, reliable and timely information" to members, while seven of 12 members said she didn't "require professional conduct from all staffers."

"The year began with a lack of integrity surrounding the secret changing of Fairview High to a trimester, and ended with misrepresenting to all or some of the board, the County Commission, the media, and/or the public concerning the handling of improper release of confidential information. She told the public, the media and the County Commission that the individual who improperly disclosed confidential information resigned without pressure or being asked to. In a written report to the board, she said she threatened him with termination unless he resigned," one board member wrote in the comments section of the evaluation, which is anonymous.

Another board member wrote, "I believe the superintendent always has the best interests of the school district at the core of her decisions."

Breach talk pre-empted

Much of the board members' animosity in the evaluation can be traced to the aftermath created by assessment specialist Chris Nugent uploading confidential student information to a personal Web site.

In previous work sessions, board members had asked Sharber when she knew of the breach and how long she kept it under wraps before news reached the media.

Sharber maintains that she first heard of the security breach June 24. A news conference was held July 11.

Board member Barry Watkins engaged in a line of questioning that suggested the superintendent could have done more in advance to discipline Nugent, who was arrested in February for driving under the influence. Sharber said she learned of that incident months later.

Nugent voluntarily resigned after the breach was made public.

Since the breach, the district has moved to strip any use of Social Security numbers to identify students.

Sharber says the breach was not a factor behind her notice of intent not to extend her contract. Sharber said she plans to seek a similar position elsewhere, one that could be in or out of Tennessee.

Sharber's tenure at the top

1988: Becky Sharber, then Becky Schwab, is elected to her first four-year term as superintendent of schools.

1992: Sharber is elected to a second four-year term as superintendent before state law is changed to make it a board-appointed position.

1996: School board hires Terry Grier and gives him a four-year contract. After repeated clashes with the board, he leaves a few months early for a job in North Carolina.

2000: Sharber, who had been involved in consulting work, is named interim superintendent.

2001: School board hires New Jersey native Dallas Johnson, giving him a three-year contract. At the end of the second year, the board decides it won't extend his contract. Johnson leaves early with the board's approval.

2003: Deputy Schools Director David Heath is named interim superintendent.

2004: Sharber is appointed superintendent for a three-year term.

2006: Sharber enters into new contract for a two-year term ending June 30, 2009.

2008: Sharber announces she will not seek contract extension.
